Wetlands Instructor: Part-time, Seasonal

The Position

Lindsay Wildlife Experience provides instructors for wetland field trip programs for the Mt. View Sanitary District (MVSD) in Martinez, CA. Primary Responsibilities

From late January 2019 to May 2019, guide four-hour hikes of renovated MVSD wetlands with students between grades 2 and 5. Hikes consist of scientific sampling stations, observations, and exploration. Wetland field trip programs will take place Wednesdays through Fridays, and the number of hours will vary depending on the number of school reservations. Last year, there were over 40 wetland field trip programs. The expectation is between 10 and 15 hours per weekof programs in 2019. These programs typically take place between 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Finally, there are two mandatory training dates to attend: Thursday, January 24 and Wednesday, February 6. The Instructor is paid $100 for each program, or $20 per hour of work (1 hour of preparation and clean-up, four hours of program delivery).

Hours, Benefits & Compensation

Non-Exempt, part-time, 10 – 15 hours/week, $20 an hour.


Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.

Primarily outdoor environment.


Medium strength demands include exerting 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10- 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly. Requires handling, using vision and hearing, and talking. Frequently requires standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, sitting, reaching, pushing/pulling, balancing, and twisting. Occasionally requires carrying, kneeling, foot controls, bending, and crouching. Rarely requires climbing. 


Frequently performing multiple tasks simultaneously and working closely with others as part of a team. Rarely requires emergency situations.
