November 2018 Conservation Icons: Dr. Dan Simberloff, Invasive Species

Saturday, November 10, 2018 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm Age 12+ , , ,

Join Lindsay Wildlife 6 p.m., Saturday November 10 for Conservation Icons: Dr. Dan Simberloff, when he discusses invasive species and what everyone needs to know!

A professor with the University of Tennessee Knoxville, Simberloff is a foremost expert on invasive species. Of the 7,000 estimated non-native species present in North America, approximately 1,000 are invasive. Invasive species are in the minority, but their small numbers don’t keep them from causing billions of dollars in economic and ecological harm each year. Policymakers and ecologists continue to try to figure out which species might be harmful, which invasive species are doing the most damage, and which of these might respond best to eradication efforts.

Dr. Simberloff is a biologist and ecologist who earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1969. He is currently the Gore Hunger Professor of Environmental Science at the University of Tennessee and Editor-in-Chief of the journal Biological Invasions.

Dr. Simberloff is just one of six awe-inspiring speakers that are part of the 2018-19 Conservation Icons series that aims to educate, entertain and inspire change!
