Join one of the best naturalists, Barney Howard–a Lindsay Wildlife and Walnut Creek staple– as he leads a group through an unforgettable hike at Bayberry Pond in the Lime Ridge Open Space. This hike will be held May 13 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Bring water, sunscreen and wear good walking shoes! Conditions are likely to be muddy, please consider wearing rubber boots. Binoculars are recommended.

Adult supervision of children is required. Kids are free with paid adults!

This two-hour family fun excursion will get you and your child outside and exploring the surrounding grassland, the seasonal pond and the critters that exist in the beautiful open space.

Bayberry Pond is a Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation success. In 2008 the foundation used a Civic Pride Grant to partially fund restoration of Bayberry Pond near the Bayberry Drive entrance to Lime Ridge Open Space (North). The goal was to increase riparian habitat in Lime Ridge because it has less water than the other open space. Accumulated sediment was removed from the pond so that it will retain water longer in the spring and now the ecosystem there is thriving!

Directions: Meet at the Bayberry Drive Entrance

From downtown Walnut Creek, drive out Ygnacio Valley Road approximately 4 miles to Oak Grove Road. Turn left on Oak Grove and go to the first traffic light at Citrus Ave. Turn right and go right on Perada. Continue 0.5 miles to Bayberry and turn right. Park on the side on this dead end and walk uphill to the Ygnacio Canal Trail. If you proceed to the right on the Ygnacio Canal Trail and through the lighted tunnel underneath Ygnacio Valley Road, you can enter the environmentally-protected area of Lime Ridge South just past the tunnel to the left.
