Hospital update–week of April 22

The hospital received 148 animals last week, bringing the total for this year to 958.

Baby songbirds have started arriving: house finches, dark-eyed juncos, Bewick’s wrens and titmice so far. Many birds spend time on the ground after leaving the nest before they can fly well. The parents continue to feed them as they hop around learning to fly. If you see a young bird on the ground, don’t automatically pick it up. Watch from a distance–you’ll probably get to see a parent bird taking care of its offspring.
