Hospital update–week of February 3

The hospital received 33 animals last week, bringing the total for this year to 179.

The first babies of the season were two week-old black-tailed hares (jackrabbits) that were found at a construction site in a bad location and another week-old hare that was caught by a cat. The first baby birds of the season were two Anna’s hummingbirds that were brought in because their nest tree was trimmed. The time to safely prune trees is passed. From now until September, birds and squirrels will be using trees and bushes to raise their babies.
