Weekly hospital update – Week of November 28

The hospital received 31 animals last week, bringing the total for this year to 5139.

Nine of the patients were injured when they hit windows–2 northern flickers, 2 hermit thrushes, 2 cedar waxwings and one each of white-crowned sparrow, fox sparrow and western scrub-jay. If birds repeatedly hit specific windows in your home, cover those windows with netting or hang Mylar ribbon strips every 6 inches. Both techniques will make the window more obvious and should prevent further injuries and death. Covering the window on the inside won’t make a difference–it’s usually the reflection of the glass that confuses birds.
