Guapo

Inspired by the Lindsay’s Animal Ambassador, Guapo, the Chuckwalla

Artist Statement: The piece titled, Guapo, was made using oil paint, acrylic paint, and ink. This piece is inspired by one of the chuckwallas that reside at Lindsay Wildlife. The artist fondly remembers giving the desert lizards enrichment once a week and wanted to capture how they lay on their branches in their enclosure.

 

 

Rufous

Inspired by the Lindsay’s Animal Ambassador, Rufous, the Red-Tailed Hawk

Artist Statement: The piece titled, Rufous, was made using oil paint, acrylic paint, and ink. It is a realistic painting of one of the red-tailed hawks residing at Lindsay Wildlife. This was the first raptor that the artist was trained to handle, which inspired the piece due to the special connection that was made.

Artist Statement: Because of my work with Wildlife over the past 30 years I have been able to make my portraits up close and personal. This oil on canvas is of Alba, Lindsay’s female barn owl who is one of the many animals I have had the pleasure of working with at the Lindsay.

Artist Statement: Before the pandemic, I had the privilege of taking Lindsay Wildlife’s Fire, the red-tailed hawk, outside for fresh air and sun on many occasions. I was always in awe of her beauty, strength, and size. I used a photo by fellow AE volunteer Jeff Robinson as my reference. It was in his 2013 calendar that he made for Lindsay that year.

Artist Statement: This was inspired by a photo taken by fellow hospital volunteer Saundra Tickner. Saundra and I volunteer Monday nights during the hospital’s busy season and she loves to photograph birds on her kayaking trips.

Artist Statement: I’ve always loved egrets, with their elegance and brilliant whiteness. During these trying times, I thought of something peaceful – egrets in a marsh at dawn.

Artist Statement: Owl is a watercolor study of a magnificent Great Horned Owl that frequently appears in the trees in my yard and is much more amazing than any artwork can portray. Serious, silent, and beautiful.
