Valerie Wayne brings over two decades of experience in nonprofit and municipal animal sheltering to her role on the board of Lindsay Wildlife Experience. From managing shelter operations at Berkeley Humane, to serving as a dedicated volunteer with Berkeley Animal Care Services and a volunteer mentor at Oakland Animal Services.
Valerie began her professional journey as a television producer and earned an Emmy Award for her work on KTVU Channel 2’s 10 o’clock news. Her background in storytelling fuels her passion for public education and advocacy on behalf of animals, both domestic and wild.
As a National Field Response consultant with the ASPCA, Valerie has provided emergency rescue for animals across the country. Locally, she serves as a responder for two Bay Area wildlife organizations and volunteers with Lindsay Wildlife Hospital as a wildlife rehabilitator and hotline operator.
She lives in the Oakland/Berkeley Hills with her husband and their rescued German shepherd, Bismarck. Their home is a National Wildlife Federation certified wildlife habitat that supports native species, reflecting her commitment to conservation through coexistence. In her free time, she enjoys trail riding in West Marin with her horse, Winston.
“It’s an honor to serve Lindsay at the board level,” Valerie says. “I believe deeply in our mission to connect people to wildlife and inspire compassion through direct action.”
