Now living in our What’s Wild-What’s Not exhibit, this opossum was originally brought into our wildlife hospital in May of 2015 after being found in a yard in Livermore. She was sent back with the finder to be released. In July, the “rescuer” called the hospital and indicated she had been caring for the opossum as a pet. Hospital staff eventually convinced her to turn her in, as it is illegal to keep them as pets. She is habituated – she shows no fear of people and a dependence on them for food.
